Card: Sharing in Your Sorrow - Global Design Project #81

Using Versamark ink to make a watermarked design on plain cardstock is a technique I love but don't use nearly enough!  Tone-on-tone in any color always has an understated elegance.  Sometimes you just need that extra little something that really takes your handmade card or other paper project to another level. Using this technique on a sympathy card adds texture and interest in a way that doesn't look too showy or overdone.

This week's Global Design Project is a color challenge with Night of Navy, Whisper White and a third color of your choice.  For this project I chose Smoky Slate as my third color.

To make the watermarked background on the Night of Navy cardstock use the tree stamp from the Thoughts and Prayers stamp set and Versamark ink. Ink only the leafy treetop and stamp the image along one long edge of the cardstock. Stamp off the cardsock so that only the canopy of the tree is stamped.  Turn your cardstock around and nest the next row of stamping in the outline formed from the previously stamped leaves. Be sure to only ink the leaves of the stamp! Finally, stamp the leafy portion of the stamp along the bottom edge of the cardstock.

I hope that if you've never tried this technique you will!  It's so simple yet it elevates your project to a whole other level!

Card: Bluebird

I love birds!  Who doesn't?! With spring arriving birds are flying north to their summer homes and bluebirds are becoming more plentious.  The bluebird is the state bird of my home state, Missouri.

I just recently found Global Design Project and have been excited about participating in their weekly challenge!  Because of circumstances in my life I've neglected my blog for 3 years. Things have gotten better in the last few months so I have more time to devote to card making and blogging. Yay!  I also joined the Stampin' Up! team of my fabulous looooong time friend, confidant, crafting buddy and enabler - Donna!

The GDP challenge theme this week is to CASE the designer.  I chose to CASE Louise's sweet sketch to make this card for Angie, my upline "great-grandma" to thank her for gifts she's sent me and to wish her a belated happy birthday.

Card: Urban Underground

handmade cards, paper crafts, paper crafting, Stampin' Up!, rubber stamping, die cutting

From the moment I saw this Designer Series paper from Stampin' Up! I loved it.  Masculine themed papers can be hard to find!  Black tends to be a favorite of mine and the addition of Delightful Dijon, one of the selections from the 2015-2017 In Color group, looks great with black.

I have this thing about leaves...
I love using them on cards and these open framework leaves from the Stylish Stems Framelits are a perfect accent!  And that cute paperclip is just, well, cute. For the Basic Gray back ground I first lightly stamped the honeycomb and post mark stamps from the Butterfly Basics set before embossing it with the Hexagons Dynamic Textured Impressions embossing folder. You really have to see the embossing in person to appreciate it - the 3D effect is just spectacular. To finish off the embossing the surface was lightly inked to emphasize the hexagon design.
